Unbounded by state lines, the trails awaiting hikers in this updated edition of 60 HIKES WITHIN 60 MILES: NEW YORK CITY include a deep exploration of Trout Brook Valley in Weston, a scenic section of the Appalachian Trail that runs by Fitzgerald Falls in New York, and many wonderful hikes throughout the Hudson Valley.

From secluded woods and sun-struck seashores, to lowland swamps and rock-strewn mountain tops, there are many opportunities to escape 'civilization' in our area. The authors will present a slide show of the trails they document and discuss the preparation of the books.

Christopher & Catherine Brooks are residents of New Canaan. Mr. Brooks is a writer and editor, and Ms. Brooks is a professional photographer. They have hiked the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, the Inca Trail, and extensively explored the US, Mexico & South America, Eureka Asia & North America.
ROBERT VAUGHN
A Fortunate Life
Friday, October 17, 7:30 pm

Location: Books on the Common

Books on the Common is pleased to welcome Robert Vaughn to launch his autobiography, A Fortunate Life. Mr. Vaughn is easily one of the most recognized names and faces over the past half-century in acting – in film, TV and the stage. The list of Hollywood folks he has known and worked with spans the "Who’s Who" of golden age of the film industry, right through to the top names of today. Best known by baby boomers as the Napoleon Solo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (the coolest TV show of the 60’s), Mr. Vaughn has indeed had A Fortunate Life – one he discusses with humor, candor and grace in his new book.

Tuesday, October 28, 7:30 pm
Location: Books on the Common

Archer Mayor is the award winning author of the highly acclaimed, Vermont-based series featuring detective Joe Gunther, which the Chicago Tribune describes as "the best police procedurals being written in America." Set in Vermont and Maine, his latest Joe Gunther novel follows the detective on the trail of multiple murders and drug smuggling, from bucolic mountain towns to the lobstering villages of Maine. Come and meet the author The New York Times calls "the boss man on procedures."
CAROL DE GIERE
Defying Gravity: The Creative Career of Stephen Schwartz from Godspeed to Wicked
Thursday, November 13, 7 p.m.
Location: Ridgefield Library

Defying Gravity takes readers into the creative world of Broadway and film composer Stephen Schwartz, from writing Godspell's score at age 23 through the making of the megahit Wicked. For this first authorized biography, de Giere draws from 80 hours of interviews with Schwartz and over 100 interviews with his colleagues, friends, and family. Her sympathetic yet frank narrative reveals never-before-told stories and explores both Schwartz's phenomenal hits and expensive flops.
